Visibility issues at Camp Nou spark fan frustration after renovation changes

FC Barcelona’s return to the renovated Spotify Camp Nou has brought excitement in recent weeks, but it is also creating an unexpected problem for some supporters.

According to Xavier Bosch, a number of fans seated behind the goals have complained that visibility from parts of the lower stand remains poor, to the point that even the goal line can be difficult to see properly. The issue was especially noticeable in the recent game against Newcastle United, with supporters unable to see low shots clearly.

The problem appears to be linked to the design of the lower tier. The shallow incline of the stand, combined with the static pitchside advertising structure, blocks the view from some rows behind the goal. Up to row 13, fans can lose sight of as much as a metre of the goal.

That naturally becomes even more frustrating on major European nights. Supporters are paying premium prices for Champions League games, only to find that their angle does not allow them to properly see one of the most important areas of the pitch.

What makes the situation even more striking is that this was apparently a known issue in the wider redevelopment discussion. The original Nikken Sekkei winning project for the full stadium remodel had proposed improving the incline of the first tier and sacrificing rows at the back, where VIP boxes were planned, precisely to fix this visibility problem. However, after the project was reformulated, the lower stand’s slope was left largely unchanged.

As a result, Barcelona now face a challenge beyond the football itself. The revamped Camp Nou may be returning piece by piece, but for some fans, the matchday experience is still falling short in a very basic way: being able to see the goal in front of them properly.
