Vitesse have added goalkeeper Maximilian Brüll and midfielder Nathan Markelo to their ranks. The 23-year-old stopper arrives from Germany, while the defensive-minded Markelo adds some depth in the centre of the park.

Brüll has joined on a free transfer from Borussia Mönchengladbach, signing a two-year contract in Arnhem, with an option for a further year. The 26-year-old Markelo has signed a one-year contract with an option for two more seasons.

Brüll played for Borussia Mönchengladbach’s second team last season. He made a total of 60 appearances with Die Fohlen’s reserves. This isn’t the first time Vitesse has made deals in Germany this season, as Valon Zumberi (HSV), Ricardo-Felipe Schwarz (Werder Bremen), and Moustafa Moustafa (also Borussia Mönchengladbach) have already made the move.

Before he signed for Vitesse, Markelo played for a year in Hungary with Hebar Pazardzhik, after which he was left without a club. Before that, he played in the youth academies of FC Volendam and Everton. H then lingered in England, before ending up with FC Twente, PSV, Excelsior, and Fortuna Sittard. Markelo made a total of 30 Eredivisie appearances.
