Vitor Pereira has addressed the situation surrounding global head of football Edu at Nottingham Forest. According to Nottingham Post, amid a turbulent campaign the Brazilian’s position has come under growing scrutiny and, while nothing has been announced, confirmation of a departure appears to be only a matter of time.

Speaking before Thursday night’s Europa League last 16 first leg against FC Midtjylland, Trentside, Pereira said he met Edu on arrival and knows him from earlier Arsenal talks.

Edu was appointed last July in what was seen as a coup for the Reds. The former Arsenal sporting director had been expected to help build on last season’s seventh-placed Premier League finish, but events have not unfolded that way.

Pereira retains respect for the 47-year-old and recalled previous contact when he was in contention for the Gunners job before Mikel Arteta took charge. Since taking the City Ground hot seat last month, he said their direct contact has been limited and that he does not control or know the full details of the situation.

When hired, Edu was tasked with working across Evangelos Marinakis’ network, including Olympiacos, Rio Ave and Forest, overseeing recruitment, performance, squad strategy and player development.

Doubts about his future first surfaced in January amid Forest’s survival fight and criticism of transfer business. Pereira, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss, insisted the uncertainty changes little for him, stressing his focus is on the present, improving his team and winning the next game.
