Nottingham Forest have turned to Vitor Pereira, who has agreed to become their fourth manager of a tumultuous season, seeking to rekindle the Nuno Espirito Santo spark.

According to NY Times, some at Wolves felt Pereira initially recreated Nuno’s atmosphere, a familiar comfort that re-energised players and staff.

The Portuguese pair share Jorge Mendes as agent and a liking for 3-4-2-1. Pereira’s clarity and simplicity, after Gary O’Neil’s information-heavy spell, helped free minds and tighten set-piece defending.

Wolves then strung together a six-game winning run, beat most fellow strugglers and secured safety with weeks to spare. The momentum soon vanished, performances unravelled, and he was sacked in November.

Given greater sway in a summer restructure, he added coaches that created too many voices and took a stronger hand in recruitment. He and Domenico Teti shaped a failed window, while fringe players, training intensity and variety raised concerns.

Pereira’s career has been restless since Porto’s back-to-back titles and a near move to Everton, followed by Al Ahli. He has won leagues with Olympiacos and Shanghai Port, but also suffered relegation with 1860 Munich, two Fenerbahce sackings, and the Corinthians-to-Flamengo row.

Forest’s Nuno-led core reached Europe via the league and the FA Cup semi-finals last season, yet this campaign has already seen Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche come and go. A volatile coach now meets a volatile club, so what follows could be quick and fiery, with Fenerbahce awaiting in a Europa League playoff next week.
