Nottingham Forest suffered a brutal late defeat as Liverpool won 1-0 at the City Ground. Nottingham Post reports that Pereira's reaction underlined a finishing problem.
Forest had 12 first-half attempts before VAR chalked off an Alexis Mac Allister effort for handball. In the 97th minute the Liverpool midfielder struck, and Pereira flailed, turned away and thumped the dugout. He later said he was “angry with football” and had “some doubts” about the offside check.
Forest's issue is obvious. Across their last two league games they have produced 53 shots without a goal, including 35 against Wolves and 18 here, yet seldom forced a save. Only 7.1% of their league attempts have gone in this season, the division's second-worst ratio.
Pereira has injected positivity and kept players in their roles, but depth remains a worry after an unchanged side followed Thursday's win at Fenerbahce in Istanbul, Türkiye. The turnaround proved taxing and the first-choice XI cannot start every week. Cameos from Dilane Bakwa and Dan Ndoye failed to shift the dial, while Callum Hudson-Odoi and Omari Hutchinson lacked end product at times.
There were clear positives, from a braver press to a balanced shape, and the midfield of Ibrahim Sangare and Elliot Anderson, with Morgan Gibbs-White, was excellent, Sangare outstanding. Yet Chris Wood's absence bites, Igor Jesus has thrived in Europe but not domestically, and Lorenzo Lucca has not convinced. Keep these levels and points should come, but the fight to stay up may still go to the wire.
