Despite this being one of the more complicated operations they have been involved in recently, FC Barcelona were successfully able to complete the transfer of their striker Vitor Roque to the Brazilian side Palmeiras.
The Catalans got €25.5 million in fixed fees from this transfer and can get another €5 million in variables, while also retaining 80% right on a player who can still go on to have a great career.
Although he arrived at the Blaugrana club with great expectations, he returned to Brazil only 14 months after he left his native country. There were several factors that led Roque to join Palmeiras, including his concerns about game time at Real Betis, where he spent the last few months on loan.
Meanwhile, another factor could have been his conversations with his friend Endrick, who is currently playing for Real Madrid and, with Roque, was one of the most promising strikers in Brazil last year.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Vitor Roque himself revealed that he had talked to the Merengue youngster before undertaking the move to Brazil:
“I spoke with Endrick, and he wished me good luck. He’s a guy I really support. We just faced each other, and now being here at Palmeiras, where he made so much history, is a great source of joy for me.”
Furthermore, he went on to express his readiness to make his debut with his new team:
“I’m feeling good. I’ve been training and playing as usual. Now it’s time to integrate with my teammates, and if the coach needs me, I’m ready.”
Unfortunately, the striker’s time at Barcelona did not really pan out as expected, but for now, he has the opportunity to start with a clean slate and once again show the skills that made him one of the most in-demand strikers in Europe.
