Vítor Vinha has been a standout across Benfica’s academy this season, and A Bola reports that the 39-year-old is close to agreeing a new contract, with a similar outcome also possible for Nélson Veríssimo.
Vinha arrived in the summer of 2024 from Rio Ave to take charge of the under-23s.
In 2024/25 he guided that side to its first trophy at this level, lifting the Taça Revelação.
This past season, now concluded, he again impressed with the under-23s across the league and the Taça Revelação, although they did not retain the cup.
He also enhanced his reputation by leading the under-19s to the UEFA Youth League final four.
Beyond results, Vinha has helped link the first team and the academy, mirroring Veríssimo’s role with Benfica B, and has worked in direct contact with José Mourinho, who led Benfica last season.
