Vivián says he is in the final stretch of his recovery after a little over two months out, having missed pre-season and the league. According to El Correo, the Athletic centre-back discussed the problem before the derby against Alavés.

He revealed he had been carrying discomfort since last season and believes he should have stopped, but continued because the situation for the team was complicated.

During the summer break he followed a specific plan that initially seemed to work, only for the pain to return soon after pre-season began. He then switched to a different, demanding programme and prepared himself mentally for it.

The issue was an insertional injury to the right adductor longus, made public on 16 July. He now feels very good and almost fully recovered.

The league pause arrives after the Alavés game and he views it as a chance to regain full sharpness. He intends to use the break to reach the team’s tempo.
