Juan Pablo Vojvoda hailed Neymar after the forward scored both goals in Santos’ 2-1 win over Vasco at Vila Belmiro in the fourth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
According to Diario Do Peixe, Vojvoda said he had spoken with the player after the Paulista quarter-final loss to Grêmio Novorizontino, adding that the club’s internal view differed from outside criticism of the player.
He maintained he had liked Neymar’s display in that defeat, even when public reaction suggested otherwise. Vojvoda said he identifies positives in performances that come under fire, and that this applies to others too.
He also highlighted Neymar’s fitness and efficiency, noting the player completed 90 minutes in that game and produced again against Vasco. He stressed that a footballer of Neymar’s calibre must be effective.
Neymar’s brace took him to 152 goals for Santos, placing him in the club’s top 10 all-time scorers.
Santos now have four points from four rounds, with one win, one draw and two defeats, and sit 13th after climbing off the bottom.
They face Mirassol on Tuesday, 10 March 2026 at 21:30 in the fifth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, at Estádio Municipal José Maria de Campos Maia.
