According to Diario Do Peixe, Racing are negotiating a loan for Santos centre-back Adonis Frías at the request of head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda.
Frías recently apologised to fans after an error against UCV of Venezuela. He started and was withdrawn at half-time in the 4-2 win at Vila Belmiro on 28 July, the Copa Sudamericana play-off second leg, after a misplaced pass led to a goal inside 25 seconds.
The proposal is a one-year loan with an option to buy. Racing first sought a player swap, but Santos are under a transfer ban and cannot register new arrivals. Performance-related payments are still being discussed.
Vojvoda worked at Santos from August last year to March this year and has already brought in forward Lautaro Díaz from the Brazilian club. Racing are targeting centre-backs after Marco Di Cesari sustained a right ankle fracture.
Having previously worked together, talks could be smoothed by that relationship. Racing have also held negotiations with Mateo Carabajal of Independiente del Valle in Ecuador.
He returned to the Santos XI after the World Cup pause and has two goals in 24 appearances this year. Those outings span the Paulistão, Brasileiro, Copa do Brasil and Sudamericana, with goals against Bragantino and Coritiba.
Signed in September last year, Frías made 13 league appearances in 2025, and is under contract until December 2028. The 28-year-old from Florencio Varela won the 2020 Copa Sudamericana and 2021 Recopa with Defensa y Justicia, and also played for Los Andes and León.
