The voting for January’s Etihad Player of the Month award is now open!
Following another strong period for Andrée Jeglertz’s side, our shortlist has been whittled down to three members of his squad as City extended our lead at the top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table.
Top-flight victories over Everton and London City Lionesses mean the Blues now sit nine points clear of Chelsea at the WSL summit.
And although our Subway Women’s League Cup campaign ended at the semi-final stage in January, we secured progression into the FA Cup fifth round with a clinical 6-0 win over Bournemouth on the south coast.
Across those outings there were a number of fantastic collective and individual displays, but who has received a nomination for January’s Etihad Player of the Month award?
Find out below and cast your vote ahead of the winner being announced next week!
Jade Rose continued her rapid progression across January with the type of composed and committed displays she’s regularly produced since her summer arrival.
The Canada centre-back started each of our four games across the month, helping City to two clean sheets and three victories in total.
That started with a 2-0 win over Everton where she, alongside Rebecca Knaak and Alex Greenwood at the heart of our defence, kept the Toffees at bay and provided the platform for the professional victory.
Rose then played 56 minutes on the south coast as we beat Bournemouth in the FA Cup to secure progression into the next round and kept the Cherries’ forwards quiet throughout her time on the field.
A narrow 1-0 defeat to Chelsea followed in the League Cup where City couldn’t quite convert chances into goals, but our defender was a standout performer and kept the dangerous Alyssa Thompson relatively quiet down the right flank.
She then closed January by playing the full 90-minutes in our precious 2-1 win away at London City Lionesses, which extended our lead at the WSL’s summit to nine points.
In what is her second successive nomination for the monthly award, Vivianne Miedema is shortlisted after recording four goal involvements across the January four outings.
Against the Toffees, the WSL’s all-time leading scorer netted our second of the afternoon when she collected Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw’s smart, scooped pass to clinically find the back of the net.
Miedema started among the substitutes for our trip to Bournemouth, but she stamped her authority on the cup tie with two goals after the interval at Snows Stadium.
The first saw her showcase her poacher’s instinct when she latched onto Lily Murphy’s ricocheted effort to find the back of the net.
And she rounded off the scoring against the Cherries when slamming into the back of the net in the closing stages.
Before the curtain fell on January, Miedema provided the assist for Kerolin’s opener in our win away at London City Lionesses with a typically clinical pass in behind to the Brazilian.
Completing January’s nominees is Lauren Hemp, who started each of our four assignments across the month and played the full 90 minutes in three.
After constantly causing Everton problems in our victory over the Toffees at the Joie Stadium, she scored against Bournemouth with a fantastic effort from the left.
The England international ghosted into the box and beat the offside trap to drill home into the bottom corner which represented our second goal of the afternoon against the Cherries.
Hemp then maintained her place in Jeglertz’s starting XI for our League Cup last-four tie with Chelsea and, despite the result, the winger was a constant thorn in the visitors’ side.
And she closed the month with a trademark skilful and direct display in the capital as we beat London City Lionesses, with her deflected effort eventually leading to the game’s winning goal.
