The final round of qualification for CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations WAFCON 2026 delivered night of pure intensity and storylines across the continent on Wednesday , as national teams took huge steps toward Morocco 2026.
In Kinshasa, South Africa’s reigning African champions were forced to settle for 1-1 draw against determined DR Congo side.
Kgaelebane Mohlokoane opened the scoring for the visitors in the 42 minute drilling home from the edge of the area. But the hosts hit back instantly as Ruth Kipoyi levelled on the stroke of halftime (45+1) after slick attacking move down the left.
The second half saw the Leopards Dames pressing for winner, yet Andile Dlamini’s saves kept the champions level. With the away goal, Desiree Ellis’s side return to South Africa with narrow advantage before the decisive second leg.
Meanwhile CECAFA rivals Kenya will host The Gambia on 24 October in their own 2nd round first leg fixture.
In Windhoek, Zambia reminded the continent of their attacking firepower in 4-2 win over Namibia.
The hosts went ahead through Ivon Kooper (51’) but Zenatha Coleman (59’) equalized for Zambia before Racheal Nachula (16’) and Kundananji hat trick (12’, 70’, 90+3’) sealed pulsating victory.
The Copper Queens head home for the return leg with commanding two goal advantage and firm control of the tie.
The first leg of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations WAFCON 2026 qualifier between Egypt & Ghana will be played on Wednesday 23 October.
Kick off is scheduled for 16:00 GMT with both nations aiming to take decisive early step toward qualification for the Morocco 2026 finals.
