Wales captain Angharad James has penned a new two-year contract to extend her stay at Seattle Reign.
The 31-year-old joined the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side in January 2024 from Tottenham Hotspur.
She also played for Bristol, Notts County, Yeovil Town, Everton and Reading during her time in England.
James joined Seattle at the same time as international teammate Lily Woodham. However, Woodham left the club recently to join Women’s Super League side Liverpool.
She also plays alongside Wales’ most-capped player Jess Fishlock, who has played for Seattle since 2013.
Seattle Reign are currently sixth in the NWSL standings, and play Angel City FC on Friday evening (3am BST on Saturday, August 2nd).
UK betting websites have Seattle Reign as 11/10 favourites, with Angel City at odds of 7/4.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Angharad James said she was delighted to extend her stay with Seattle Reign.
She said: “I couldn’t be happier to continue my journey in Seattle.
“This club and this city have truly made it feel like home. I’ve grown so much here over the past two seasons, both on and off the pitch, and I’m excited to keep building with this incredible group.”
The club’s general manager, Lesle Gallimore added: “We’re thrilled to welcome Haz back to Reign FC for two more seasons.
“As captain of Wales, she brings steady leadership, composure, and experience – qualities that add invaluable consistency to our midfield.
“Haz is the kind of player every club wants, and we’re lucky to have her.”
Angharad James has scored one goal in 27 appearances since joining Seattle in January 2024.
However. she is not known for her goals, but for her industrious work in midfield to help things tick for whatever side she plays for.
Through the first half of the 2025 season, she ranks second in the team in minutes played (759) and third for tackles won (22).
Among all NWSL players with at least 25 tackles this season, James leads the league for tackle success rate at 81 per cent.
Before joining Tottenham in 2022, she had prior NWSL spells with North Carolina Courage and Orlando Pride.
James was part of the Wales squad that played at their first-ever major international tournament at Euro 2025.
Wales crashed out of a tough group which also included champions England, France and the Netherlands.
