Wales vice-captain Ceri Holland feared her Women’s Euro 2025 dream would be over before it started after leaving the Nations League game against Denmark on a stretcher.

Holland suffered the injury during the closing stages of the Nations League clash in April.

She was in tears as she left the field on the stretcher, while she left the ground in a protective boot.

Liverpool and Wales fans feared the worst, thinking that Holland could have suffered a broken bone or ligament damage which would have ruled her out for the rest of the season, and Euro 2025.

Holland missed Liverpool’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea, but fortunately the leg injury was not as bad as first feared.

The Wales midfielder was back in action for Liverpool in their following WSL clash against Brighton.

Ceri Holland recalls Euro 2025 fears

Ahead of Women’s Euro 2025, Ceri Holland has revealed that she feared she would not feature in the tournament after suffering an injury against Denmark in April.

She said: “I was very, very lucky. With the Euros around the corner that’s what was on everyone’s minds.

“Those next 24 hours after the injury were tough, mentally they were very tough. Naturally. you do fear the worst, but I was happy to be back with the team.

“I was waiting to see how long that injury would play out, you never know how your body’s going to react.

“But as soon as I got back on the pitch I thought I’d be ready and I’ve just continued to grow my fitness.”

Holland’s absence would have been a big blow for Wales ahead of their first major tournament in Switzerland.

She has scored seven goals in 43 appearances for her country, and is one of their most creative players.

What are Wales’ chances of making it out of their group at Euro 2025?

Wales have been handed a tough group draw for their first major tournament at Women’s Euro 2025.

Rhian Wilkinson’s side are in Group D alongside England, France, and the Netherlands.

While their group opponents all sit inside the top six favourites to win the 16-nation tournament, Wales have the longest odds out of any team to lift the trophy this month.

According to the UK’s best betting sites, Wales are priced at 200/1 to win the trophy. Wales are also 50/1 long shots to win Group D.

Wales star Gemma Evans told the BBC that they are happy to be underdogs.

She said: “We are fine with the group. We’re fine with outside noise, or people who don’t have any faith in us or are underestimating us.

“We know the talent we’ve got in the group. We know what we’ve got to do. We’re happy with the position we’re in, and we know what we will do.”
