Saudi media figure Walid Al-Faraj has suggested the war in Iran could affect whether Iranian clubs take part in Asian competitions soon. He indicated this might shape Tractor’s travel plans and Al-Ahli Dubai Youth’s route.
According to Goal.com, speaking on his Saudi programme Action with Walid, he said Al-Ahli Dubai Youth could reach the quarter-finals because Tractor are unlikely to make the trip due to the conflict.
He added that the Asian Football Confederation has not decided on Tractor’s status, and that he does not know whether they will come, though expectations are that they will not.
Regional tensions in the Middle East have already disrupted sport, forcing postponements of several matches and tournaments in Gulf states.
The West Asian round of 16 in the Elite Championship is set to begin on Monday and Tuesday, with Al-Ahli, Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal all involved.
