Walsall visit St James Park to face Exeter City in League Two on Saturday, with a possible boost as Roman Dixon nears a return and Courtney Clarke remains a doubt.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, head coach Lee Grant said Dixon is in a good position for a potential comeback after completing his first full training session since his knock on Thursday, having worked with support staff earlier in the week.
The 21-year-old full-back has missed the past four games and has not featured since his half-time debut in the 3-0 opening-day win at Gillingham.
Clarke, who has started the season impressively, missed the 2-2 draw at Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday with a minor knock. The issue is not muscle-related, and he will be given as much time as possible to recover.
Dixon is viewed as close to involvement, but Clarke will be assessed up to the weekend, with pain and function to be managed before any decision.
