Walsall issue Roman Dixon fitness update as Ryan Leak absence is explained | OneFootball

Walsall head coach Lee Grant says Roman Dixon is building fitness in training after six matches out, and he explained Ryan Leak’s weekend omission as selection.

Dixon has not featured since his debut in the 3-0 opening-day win at Gillingham on August 15.

Leak played the full 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw at Exeter City, then missed the successive goalless stalemate against Rochdale on Saturday as Declan Skura returned. That result delivered Walsall’s sixth clean sheet in eight games.

Grant praised the lack of ego in his squad and said Leak, who wore the armband on the opening day, had every right to play, as did Harrison Burke. He added that the two centre-backs selected were outstanding, which is how it has to be.
