Walsall lead tributes to academy graduate David McDermott after death aged 38 | OneFootball

Walsall and Kidderminster Harriers have led tributes to former non-league favourite David McDermott, who has died aged 38.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the Black Country-born attacker was widely mourned on Wednesday as clubs and figures across the region's non-league game shared condolences.

A Walsall academy graduate, McDermott made his senior debut at 16 in 2004 and went on to make 19 appearances in all competitions. He remains the Saddlers' youngest ever league debutant. Born in Stourbridge, he also represented his hometown among several regional non-league sides.

He joined Kidderminster Harriers in 2008, featuring 54 times and scoring twice as the club chased promotion from the Conference. He later played for York City in the fifth tier.

Further spells followed with Halesowen Town, Stourbridge, Rushall Olympic, AFC Telford United and Worcester City. He was in the Worcester squad that famously knocked Coventry City out of the FA Cup first round in 2014.

Stourbridge and Rushall also posted tributes, while a number of the region’s non-league footballers and managers shared messages online.
