Walsall have sold Connor Barrett to Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old defender has agreed an initial three-year deal with the Latics. He had been heavily linked with the Latics in recent weeks.

The club said in a statement that: “On behalf of everyone at Walsall Football Club, we would like to sincerely thank Connor for his hard work, dedication and efforts during his time at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium and wish him and his family every success for the future. Thank you Connor and best of luck with the Latics!”

Barrett departs after 91 appearances across the past two seasons, having joined from National League AFC Fylde in 2024.

He was part of the side that agonisingly missed out on promotion from League Two in 2025, letting a healthy lead slip then losing the play-off final to Wimbledon at Wembley.

His performances that season earned him a place in the League Two team of the season, alongside fellow Saddlers player Taylor Allen.

He scored his first Walsall goal on the opening day of last season against Swindon Town, then netted twice more during the campaign.
