A 19-year-old from Washington has launched Technical Focus, a football coaching venture, after guidance from regional business experts.
According to Sunderland Echo, Frazer Barker started the business after working for another coaching company and deciding to go alone. It offers group sessions, one-to-ones and holiday provision for players aged six and above.
More than 40 youngsters now train with him each week. He has gone from one weekly group session to four, with up to 12 in each.
He admitted going solo felt daunting but said the response has been overwhelming. One-to-one work has proved popular, and he is now collaborating with two other coaches to meet demand. He believes football boosts mental wellbeing, teaches life skills and keeps people fit, and hopes to inspire more youngsters to play.
With no prior business experience, he sought help from the North East Business and Innovation Centre. Working with adviser Helen Wardropper, he registered with HMRC and is exploring funding to expand.
