Barcelona experienced an eventful morning as members gathered at the Spotify Camp Nou to take part in the club’s presidential elections.

The atmosphere around the stadium was lively early in the morning, with supporters arriving soon after the polls opened.

The spotlight quickly shifted to a familiar face, as Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets arrived at the stadium to cast his vote, immediately drawing attention from fans and media gathered outside.

Busquets, who retired from professional football in December after his spell with Inter Miami CF, remains one of the most respected figures in Barcelona’s recent history.

His appearance at Camp Nou instantly created a buzz. In fact, as he approached the voting area, Busquets met Joan Laporta, who personally greeted him at the polling station.

A great relationship

The connection between the two figures goes back many years. Laporta was the president of Barcelona when Busquets made his first-team debut in 2008 under Pep Guardiola.

Years later, Laporta was once again in charge when the midfielder said goodbye to the club in 2023 after winning his ninth La Liga title.

After greeting each other, Laporta accompanied the former midfielder to the ballot box.

With cameras capturing every moment, Busquets placed his envelope into the voting box, receiving warm applause from those present.

Standing nearby was Laporta’s close associate, Alejandro Echevarria, who has long been considered an influential figure behind the scenes at the club.

The elections also saw other key figures within Barcelona taking part in the voting process. Current president Rafa Yuste was among those who arrived at Camp Nou to cast his vote.

After voting, Yuste spoke to the club’s official media and emphasised the importance of the day for Barcelona’s members and supporters.

“It’s a very special day, where the club’s democracy is on full display. We want as many members as possible to come out and vote. It’s an emotional day.

“We’ll open the stadium to 62,000 people, and I’m convinced they’ll give us an extra boost against Sevilla. We’ll spend the day with all the Culés.

“We’re with the family of President Enric Reyna; I hope that wherever he is, he can watch the match, and we can dedicate the victory against Sevilla to him,” he said.
