FC Barcelona teenage forward Hamza Abdelkarim is experiencing the most eventful months of his young career.

At just 18, the Egyptian striker joined Barça permanently in the summer after impressing with the Juvenil A team on loan during the second half of the 2025/26 season.

Hamza was soon brought into the first-team fold by Hansi Flick and he ended up being the club’s top scorer in pre-season, weeks after he had played at a World Cup with Egypt.

Another major milestone

Now, Hamza has achieved another major milestone in his young career, scoring his first-ever international goal for Egypt.

The 18-year-old striker needed just three minutes on the pitch in Juba to score his first goal for the Pharaohs in their 5-0 win over South Sudan in the second round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

It was his eighth appearance for the national team. Hamza was at hand to tap the ball home after the opposition goalkeeper parried a shot from Osama Faisal straight into his path, demonstrating his natural goalscoring instincts.

Egypt’s other goals came from Mostafa Zico, Omar Marmoush (two) and Ibrahim Adel, before Hamza completed the scoring.

The Barcelona forward had replaced Marmoush, Egypt’s main attacking figure in Salah’s absence, shortly before scoring his landmark goal.

Biding his time at Barcelona

As for his situation at the club, despite impressing in pre-season, Hamza has found minutes hard to come by once the season started.

After all, Raphinha has been in untouchable form in his new position as a No. 9, while summer arrival Gabriel Jesus has also impressed.

The situation has restricted Hamza to only one appearance for the La Liga champions, which came in a four-minute cameo against Rayo Vallecano.

Nonetheless, the youngster remains rated very highly within the club and showed today with the national team that he will continue to make the most of whatever opportunities that come his way.

Given his potential, Barcelona even renewed his contract recently, extending it until 2030 and increasing the release clause amount to €150 million.
