Despite being a calming presence in midfield for Manchester United this season, Casemiro looked rushed off his feet when lining up against Adam Wharton on Sunday afternoon.

The Crystal Palace starlet oversaw a stellar display in the middle of the park, so he’ll undoubtedly feel aggrieved that the hosts were unable to get the result to justify his efforts.

Just after Palace got the opener via Jean Philippe-Mateta’s converted spot-kick, Samuel Luckhurst reacted on X/Twitter, saying: Wharton is playing United’s midfield off the park again.”

The 21-year-old has been absolutely integral in the Eagles’ tremendous defensive record this term; prior to yesterday’s defeat, they had gone unbeaten for 12 Premier League matches at Selhurst Park.

Casemiro, who’s 12 years Wharton’s senior, was tasked with keeping the England star and his Palace teammates quiet, but struggled to do so for the first 45 minutes of action.

Luckhurst said of the Brazilian at half-time: “Casemiro looks haunted up against Adam Wharton again.”

Thankfully for the veteran, he was able to steady the ship when the sides came back out after the interval – but that didn’t stop him from getting an earful of advice from his skipper post-match.

Bruno Fernandes was spotted ‘giving pointers’ to Casemiro as the players made their way off the pitch, with both Reds playing the full 90 minutes of action in South London.

Next up for Amorim’s men is a home clash with struggling West Ham on Thursday, December 4 at Old Trafford.

The Irons will enter the contest on the back of a 2-0 loss to Liverpool, and they sit 17th-placed in the table.
