Real Madrid may have secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Real Oviedo, but the atmosphere at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium told a very different story.

Instead of the focus remaining on the goals scored by Gonzalo Garcia and Jude Bellingham, the night became dominated by fan anger, tension inside the stadium and fresh criticism aimed directly at the club president.

The Bernabeu witnessed one of its lowest attendances of the season, and frustration among supporters became increasingly visible throughout the evening.

What happened at the Bernabeu?

As such, matters escalated when Florentino Perez exchanged heated words with a fan located just below the VIP section.

The supporter was said to be openly criticising the president’s management of the club, leading to a verbal confrontation that quickly attracted attention inside the stadium.

At the same time, another major moment unfolded in the stands when a banner appeared near the North Stand carrying the message: “Florentino, go now.”

The banner immediately became a talking point among supporters and security staff.

Attempts to remove it triggered a confrontation between security personnel and the fans responsible for displaying it, with tensions almost escalating into physical violence.

Reflection of growing frustration

The atmosphere inside the stadium reflected far more than frustration over one single match. For many, the anger has been building for months.

Real Madrid will finish their second consecutive season without major silverware, something almost unacceptable by the standards of the club.

Expectations at Madrid are always enormous, and when results collapse, attention shifts towards the people running the institution.

Perez, in that regard, has long been viewed as one of the most powerful and successful presidents, but recent weeks have badly damaged his public image, especially after his explosive press conference.

Now, with the presidential elections on the horizon, it will be interesting to see how this story pans out.
