With the international break in full swing, Real Madrid took the opportunity of hosting their annual Legends match, this time against against Porto, at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday afternoon. The occasion featured a whole host of stars, including Zinedine Zidane, Raul Gonzalez and Iker Casillas.
Casillas turned out for both sides, having played for Porto during the final five years of his playing career. But it was a save that he made while donning the Real Madrid jersey that had spectators in awe.
Casillas made a remarkable stop down to his left to stop Porto scoring early on at the Bernabeu. It was a save that most goalkeepers would be proud to make if they were in their 20s or 30s, but Casillas managed to do it at the age of 42, and despite having not played football in a professional capacity since 2020.
The match, which was used to raise money for the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [ALS] and support the Real Madrid Foundation, ended with Porto winning 1-0 courtesy of Marek Cech’s early goal.
