Real Madrid are on course to make it two wins from two in the Champions League, having taken the lead against Kairat Almaty in the first half of their league phase clash at the Ortalyq stadion.

The hosts almost took the lead inside the opening 10 seconds, but a header effort was straight into the grateful hands of Thibaut Courtois. Real Madrid were shellshocked in the minutes after that, but they have since regrouped – and in the last 10 minutes, they have piled the pressure on, with their reward having now come.

A poor defensive header allowed Franco Mastantuono to nip in ahead of 18-year-old Kairat goalkeeper Sherhan Kalmurza, who brought him down for a penalty. Kylian Mbappe stepped up, and he made no mistake.

Real Madrid were dealt an early scare in this one, but they have asserted their dominance for much of the minutes since. They will fancy their chances of seeing this one out without too many problems, as they seek to bounce back from the weekend defeat to city rivals Atletico Madrid.
