Celtic ran out 1-0 winners after a battling evening in Perth against St Johnstone. Simo Valakari’s side were no mugs as they looked to continue their impressive home form by upsetting the Hoops.

With the game evenly poised at half time, Celtic struck first after the break thanks to a tap in from Mika Baur, assisted by Haissen Hassan. The Egyptian winger thought he had scored his first goal in the Hoops later that evening after lashing onto a knockdown from Kasper Hogh.

The ball nestled in the net but the assistant referee put the flag up, indicating that the ball had gone out. Replays showed that the ball was in when Hogh knocked it down to his forward colleague. Although, Matthew MacDermid blew for play to continue after a VAR check.

The decision is dubious and feels as if Celtic have been robbed here of a perfectly good goal, just days after similar occurred in Paisley. VAR couldn’t deliver conclusive evidence so they told the referee to consult the monitor and Mheuka’s goal was ruled out as a result.
