Watford 0-2 Sheffield United: Bamford Brace Inspires Blades | OneFootball

Sheffield United secured back-to-back victories after beatìng Watford 2-0 at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.

The Blades had to wait until the second half to draw first blood when an attempted Gustavo Hamer shot inadvertently cannoned off Patrick Bamford and squirmed into the bottom corner. If the first had a touch of fortune, the second was purely sublime. Some good combination play released Femi Seriki down the right and from the byline he played a low cross in towards Bamford who flicked the ball expertly into the far bottom corner.

First Half

Riedewald showed sharp awareness to win possession on the halfway line early on, quickly feeding Callum O’Hare. The attacking midfielder drove forward with intent before slipping the ball into the path of Andre Brooks, whose low effort was comfortably gathered by Watford goalkeeper Selvik.

Brooks remained heavily involved and on 17 minutes his intelligent ball over the top released Patrick Bamford. The striker gave chase and managed to get a shot away from a tight angle, forcing Selvik into a smart low save to keep the scores level.

Selvik was proving to be a key figure early on, and he was called into action again soon after. A dangerous corner from Gustavo Hamer found Mark McGuinness rising highest, but his powerful header was expertly tipped over the bar by the alert Watford stopper.

The home side had a brief moment of promise midway through the first half. Irankunda struck firmly towards goal, only for Japhet Tanganga to produce a superb block, throwing himself bravely in front of the effort. However, clear-cut chances remained scarce for Watford, with their best opening falling to Edo Kayembe, who fired over from close range under pressure.

Second Half

After the break, Sheffield United began to assert greater control, and their persistence paid off on 50 minutes. Bamford was central to the breakthrough, showcasing excellent hold-up play before driving forward into Watford territory. He then linked up with Hamer, whose low shot was heading goalward before Bamford, continuing his run, diverted it into the corner to give the visitors a deserved lead.

With momentum firmly on their side, the Blades tightened their grip on the game and doubled their advantage just nine minutes later. Femi Seriki surged forward and delivered a dangerous low cross into the near-post area, where Bamford once again demonstrated his striker’s instinct. With a clever flick, he guided the ball into the far corner to complete his brace and effectively put the game beyond reach.

United remained resolute at the back to see out the victory as well as a long-awaited clean sheet.
