Rumoured Watford signing Hector Kyprianou isn't a top-six-level player in the Championship, warns Football League World's Peterborough United fan pundit.

A report from Santi Aouna on Wednesday stated that the Hornets are the club that are set to get the signature of the highly-rated League One midfielder.

The 23-year-old Cypriot international is set to join the club, who are now being managed by Italian boss Paulo Pezzolano following Tom Cleverley's sacking, when his Posh contract expires. He will reportedly sign a long-term deal.

Kyprianou has been with Peterborough since they signed him from Leyton Orient three summers ago for over £400,000. He went on to play 140 games for them in all competitions, winning the EFL Trophy twice - the second final, against Birmingham City, he scored in - and reaching the League One play-offs as many times.

Now he is set for a move to the Championship, but Watford shouldn't dream of him being a revolutionary addition to their squad, according to FLW's Peterborough fan pundit, Alex Batt.

Watford sent Hector Kyprianou warning

He believes that, while Kyprianou will be able to hold his own in the second tier, the 23-year-old isn't of the calibre to play for a top-six club, at least not yet.

"I think there's no doubt that Kyrpianou is a Championship-level player, "s he a player that will help you push for the play-offs? I'm not overly convinced. He's a good player, but he's not a great player, I think," claimed Batt.

"He's very safe, he's very solid in the centre of the park, but I look at players we've lost in previous years like Jack Taylor. Jack Taylor was a 10 times better footballer than Kyprianou, and he sort of struggled to make an impression at Ipswich Town, especially as a starter - he was mainly used off the bench - and yet he was a lot better than Kyprianou.

"Like I said, he's a good player. I don't think he's a great player. I think that he's a Championship-level player, I just don't think he's a play-off-chasing-level player just yet, but he could be."

Kyrpianou's Watford move may be telling of his level

Sometimes the best way to judge how excited to be about your team's new signing is to look at how the club that they are departing feels about them. This does not work for every case, and Batt certainly doesn't speak on behalf of all Peterborough fans, but his opinions on Kyprianou are quite revealing.

Watford finished 14th in the Championship this season, nine points off Bristol City in sixth place. The defensive midfielder may make things tick better at Vicarage Road, but you can certainly see why he's set to join a club of their current standing as opposed to one that was challenging for a post-season spot on the last day of the term.
