Adrian Segecic put the visitors ahead (73.), steering a left-footed finish into the bottom right from Conor Chaplin's pass. Substitute Mamadou Doumbia levelled for the Hornets (79.), turning in Luca Kjerrumgaard's lay-off from the centre of the box.

In the ninth minute of second half stoppage time, Schmid denied Hector Matthew Kyprianou's header to preserve a point for Portsmouth.

The Hornets recorded 15 attempts and 56.0% possession. Portsmouth registered 10 attempts and seven corners.

Next, the Hornets visit Blackburn. Portsmouth host Southampton.
