Watford loanee Domingos Quina has said he appreciates playing football even more now that he is getting regular game time with Barnsley.
The Portuguese attacking midfielder had spent the first half of the season out on loan at Championship leaders Fulham, but was limited to just two Championship appearances for the club.
Reflecting on his time at Craven Cottage, Quina says it made him mentally stronger and that he is appreciating playing football even more now he is featuring regularly for the Reds.
“It helped me, my time at Fulham, even though I didn’t play, it made me mentally stronger,” he said, via Watford Observer.
“Now that I’m playing, because I hadn’t been playing before, I appreciate it more,”
“So every game, I go into it and want to do my best. I want to win and work hard to help my team achieve their goals.”
So far, Quina has had a positive impact at Oakwell, making 13 Championship appearances for the club as they try to stay in the division.
Quina feels that in playing week in, week out, he is beginning to establish himself at this level – something he feels people felt he could not do.
“I’m playing a lot of games now, starting week in, week out, and I think that was the question; some people didn’t think I could do that and establish myself. And now I’m doing it week in, week out.” he continued in the Watford Observer exclusive.
“You learn more by playing games than in training. You can train as much as you want, but in the games, there are things happening that don’t happen in training, and it helps you see things.”

“If you make a mistake in a game, it makes you aware of it, so you try to improve. And the competition – you’ve got someone on the other side waiting for you not to perform so they can get their chances,”
“So it’s pressure, but it’s a nice feeling because you always have to stay on your toes, and not let the manager down because he trusts you to play every game.”
With Quina set to return to Watford this summer, there remains question marks over his future with the club having failed to establish a regular starting spot for the Hornets last season, and being loaned out this year.
Quina though, says his full focus is on helping Barnsley remain in the division, for now.
“I’m not thinking that far ahead to be honest,” he said on his future, via Watford Observer.
“My goal right now is helping Barnsley, trying to do my best to keep the team in the Championship, and after the season, I will sit down with my agent and my team, and we’ll talk about the plan.”
Barnsley and Quina take on Swansea City in Sky Bet Championship action on Friday afternoon.
After struggling to establish himself as a regular at Watford last season, and a torrid time at Fulham earlier this season, it is great to see Domingos Quina playing regular football.
The 22-year-old is a huge talent, and is now beginning to establish himself as a regular in a side for the first time in his senior career.
In that sense, his loan spell with Barnsley will benefit his development massively, as has his loan spell at Fulham in making him mentally stronger.
It will certainly be interesting to see whether or not Quina can break into the Watford side next season, given the Hornets seem destined for a return to the Sky Bet Championship.
