Watford should take a gamble on League Two attacker to solve goalscoring issues: View | OneFootball

Watford have struggled for goals in what is turning out to be a disappointing Championship season for them. Only one of their many forwards is in double figures for league goals this season.

Watford entered their second season in the EFL Championship since being relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2021/22 season full of hope with French manager Valérien Ismaël at the helm.

The Frenchman was sacked in March following a 2-1 home defeat to Coventry City at Vicarage Road which left Watford in 13th place in the division. Former player Tom Cleverley took over and after only one win in their last seven matches, the Hornets have slumped to 15th place.

Goalscoring has become an issue for the Hertfordshire club. They have managed just two goals in their last four matches in the League, and no Watford forward has managed more than Mileta Rajovic's ten league goals, which is only enough for 25th in the Championship top goalscorers table.

Watford are the tenth-highest-scoring team in the league and they have already scored more than they did last season. However, they must look to bring in a player in the summer who can get them more goals if they have any plans of a return to the Premier League.

Davis Keillor-Dunn could be the answer

Mansfield Town's Davis Keillor-Dunn is having the season of his life in League Two. He has scored 22 goals and has ten assists so far in the division. According to statistics from Sofascore, Keillor-Dunn 7.55 average rating in the fourth tier, which is the 2nd highest score in the division.

The 26-year-old is a favourite of his manager Nigel Clough and has helped the Stags to win automatic promotion to League One. He was named in the EFL League Two Team of the Season and narrowly missed out on winning the League Two Player of the Season award to Notts County's Jodi Jones.

Keillor-Dunn, a 5'9" left-footer, plays mostly as an attacking midfielder sitting behind two strikers for Mansfield, but he has also made plenty of appearances this season as a striker.

He could reignite a stale Watford attack with his ability to score goals and set them up for others. The Stags star has only one season left on his contract at Field Mill and could potentially come cheap in the summer.

Watford's misfiring forwards

Watford lost their two highest-scoring attackers last summer when João Pedro went to Brighton and Ismaïla Sarr moved to French giants Marseille. Rajovic, Rhys Healey, and Giorgi Chakvetadze were signed to replace them. Healey moved on after scoring 0 goals in half a season and Chakvetadze has disappointed with only one goal and four assists.

Returning Ivorian loanee forward Vakoun Bayo has been offered the most minutes up top among his teammates this season, but he has only managed six goals and three assists. The winter loan signing of former Watford star Emmanuel Dennis was supposed to refresh their attack, but the move yielded only four goals.

Hornets attack and maybe even propel them back to the Premier League. Watford must take a punt on him.
