Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that he has been pleased with his side’s consistent performances this season, regardless of which 11 players have taken to the pitch.

The Blue Girls have had a difficult season in which they have been riddled with injuries and have struggled for results at home. Despite the challenges, Everton could still finish the season as high as seventh place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Tottenham Hotspur, Sørensen hailed the consistency of his team when faced with enforced challenges.

“You look at our injury list and in terms of performance, I’ve said it all along, we’ve been consistent regardless of who has been playing,” Sørensen said. “After Christmas, we were playing seven midfielders, a centre-back, a winger and a striker for a period.

“I think if you look at the budget we’ve got available, we are all performing. If we win our last two games, I think we will end up one [place] lower than last season.

“It comes down to what you have to work with. You have to get the best out of that and that’s what I’m working on.”

Latest opponents Spurs currently sit in sixth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table. Sørensen says that the North Londoners have been another team that have performed consistently this season.

He said “They’ve been consistent in what they’ve been doing. Last season, results weren’t with them but I think they had quality in their squad and then they recruited also really well.

“If you have the fifth-biggest budget, you should probably be in the position where they are now. I don’t see it as a big surprise because those things seem to align over time.

“There’s still progress to be made in terms of competing with the top four in this league. I think that there is a gap regardless of how the table looks right now.”

Midfielder Issy Hobson became the youngest goalscorer in Barclays Women’s Super League history after her goal rescued a point for Everton against Arsenal last weekend. Sørensen highlighted the importance of the club developing their own talent.

He said “Economy-wise here, we all know it’s not the best, so we need to try and develop more talent, hence why we have had Issy in training with us since August consistently.

“We need to really invest in them but we have to remember that we are in the best league in the world with the highest standards and coming in as a 16-year-old, it’s really tough.”
