Aston Villa head coach Natalia Arroyo says that there is a good vibe around the club and a feeling of building something special at Villa Park.

The Villans have lost just one of their first seven matches in this season’s Barclays Women’s Super League and have carried on their good form from the end of last term.

The long-term ambitions are big at Aston Villa and head coach Arroyo says that there’s definitely a positive vibe around the club after their bright start to the campaign.

“There is a feeling around us that we are building something special,” Arroyo said when speaking in an Aston Villa press conference. “We want a good future, doing good things and we are building in that way. We are showing a competitive level every game and if we can turn the draws into wins, we will be higher in the table.

“We want to bring a win to our fans [at Villa Park this weekend]. We were able to win against West Ham and Manchester United away but we haven’t been able to win at home. It’s a good opportunity to bring the three points to our fans.”

Aston Villa have drew two and lost one of their three home matches so far this season while they have picked up eight points on their travels. Arroyo is not too concerned about the lack of a home win and she is hoping to get up and running against London City Lionesses this weekend.

She said “The Chelsea, Leicester and Everton games have all been different stories, so there’s no real pattern [showing a problem]. You can look at these games differently. It’s just coincidental rather than a clear pattern but it’s definitely something that we want to add [a home win].

“The hardest thing is normally to play away but against Chelsea and Leicester we could talk about not scoring whereas Everton were dominating us a bit more. Let’s see if we can be more one-phase.

“The first win will come and we will fight for it this Sunday. If not, we will try again before Christmas.

“I feel like it’s a good opportunity; we are in a good place, we are defending well and we are creating a little bit more. We have the legs and the brains, so let’s see if we are lucky on Sunday.”

Like Aston Villa, latest opponents London City Lionesses have enjoyed a solid start to the season. Arroyo says that her side must be aware of The Pride’s many attacking threats this weekend.

She said “They find different ways to score and they scored four goals against [Spurs]. They are finding goals from set-pieces, open play and from counter-attacks. They score through different players in different ways, so they will be a hard team to play against.

“They are good as individuals and as a team. They are solid and they are investing a lot to reach their big ambitions in the league. They don’t look like a new team in the league and they are using their experience.

“They are dangerous with the ball and they can press you high. We will try to prepare as well as we have in previous weeks, so let’s see if we can be as successful.”
