“On paper, Arsenal are maybe the strongest opponent,” said AS Monaco vice-captain Thilo Kehrer, previewing Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter against the Gunners. However, that won’t stint the Principality club’s ambition to play their own football.
“We are facing one of the best teams in Europe. They are the favourites but we are here to show our style of football. We are not here to hide and only be a nice opponent,” said Adi Hütter in a pre-match press conference, attended by Get French Football News.
The Austrian revealed that extra work had gone into analysing their opponent. “We have prepared more than for a Ligue 1 game because we are facing a top team,” he added, before referencing the Gunners’ set-piece “weapon”. No Premier League side has scored more from set-pieces, with all of Arsenal’s last three goals in the Premier League coming from dead-ball situations.
“To play against Arsenal, there is a lot of motivation and excitement. We are aware of the quality that we are coming up against tomorrow. We are here to be brave, to play our style of football and to show ourselves on this stage,” added Kehrer.
