‘We are on a very good level at the moment’ – Jeglertz pleased with Manchester City’s performances | OneFootball

Manchester City head coach Andrée Jeglertz says that he is pleased with how his side have started the new Barclays Women’s Super League season.

The 2025/2026 champions have kicked-off the new campaign with back-to-back victories over Birmingham City and Aston Villa.

While Manchester City were arguably expected to win both games, Jeglertz has been pleased with the high standard of football played by his side and the number of goals scored.

“It’s very early but we’ve played two games and scored seven goals, created a lot of chances, so I’m very pleased with that,” Jeglertz said when speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Liverpool.

“Individually, a lot of players have found relationships and the new players that have come in have contributed to the team already. Relationships are still growing but we are on a very good level at the moment.”

Liverpool are the visitors to The Joie Stadium on Friday night. The Reds have been equally as impressive in the early weeks of the season, picking up four points and netting five goals. Jeglertz went on to highlight the Merseysiders’ individual strengths in the attacking third.

He said “They have some good individual players who are really contributing to their way of playing. They are attacking in different ways; not only from crosses, they have central combinations and can break an opponent down in different ways. 

“They’re a team that are dynamic and versatile, they’re a good team. They also try to control the centre of the pitch which reminds me of what we are trying to do.

“The individual skills from their players is definitely a thing behind it.”

Jeglertz is yet to drop points in the Barclays Women’s Super League at The Joie Stadium as Manchester City head coach, however, he does not believe that The Cityzens’ excellent home record brings any added pressure game-on-game.

He said “No, I don’t think like that [having a target on our backs]. We actually lost to Chelsea in the cup but not in the league, we haven’t dropped any points.

“We are not thinking about that [record]. Each game is a new opportunity to get three points, a new challenge, a new opponent, so it’s like every game lives its own life.

“We have a good confidence coming in. We know it’s very difficult to play us here, we have the crowd with us and we are familiar with everything. We know it’s very tough to come here and take points and that confidence is definitely something that we are going to use but nothing else than that.”
