There are some songs that not every football team gets to sing. In fact, there are some that the majority of football clubs’ supporters will never get to sing, such is the extent to which Liverpool have outstripped virtually all of them. One of the main ones on that front is a song about being the champions of Europe, which is something that only a handful of clubs in the United Kingdom have managed to do.
Liverpool have done it more than any of them, which is a fact that the supporters are always keen to point out. Of course, the song we’re looking at here can only be sung when the Reds have actually won the big cup.

Modern-day football fans might be surprised to learn that Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa have the same number of European Cups between them as Manchester United, whilst you’d have to combine those three teams in order to have the same number of trophies that Liverpool have. In fact, the Reds have been in the final of the European Cup, more recently known as the Champions League, and not won it only two times fewer than all London clubs combined have reached the final. In other words, we’re really, really good when it comes to playing in Europe and that is something that Liverpool supporters are happy to show off about.
As a result, this is a song that is brought out in the season following a win in the most prestigious competition in Europe, with Anfield uniting as one to let the away end know that they are playing against the European champions. Similarly, the travelling Kop is never shy about letting the supporters of the team that Liverpool are visiting know that they’re in the presence of loyalty. It isn’t a complicated song, which is precisely what you need when you’re trying to show off about the fact that you’ve become the best team on the continent. The words are easy to learn and the tune isn’t one that will have anyone particularly dumbfounded.
Here is what Liverpool supporters chant when watching their team after it has recently won the Champions League:
We are the champions, the champions of Europe!
We are the champions, the champions of Europe!
We are the champions, the champions of Europe!
(Repeat)
