Celtic defender Auston Trusty believes that the 4–0 thrashing of Newcastle United should convince the club’s latest signings that the Scottish champions are capable of holding their own against any side in world football…

Strikes courtesy of Arne Engels, Johnny Kenny, Yang Hyun Jun, and Liam Scales secured a commanding win for Brendan Rodgers’ men over the English Premier League outfit sealing Celtic’s triumph in the first-ever adidas Trophy.

The 26 year old American international defender delivered a standout showing, producing a performance that earned him Dafabet MOTM against the reigning Carabao Cup champions.

Speaking post-match to Celtic TV, Trusty said: “I think we just back ourselves even more after this. I think it’s more important for the new guys coming in to see what we are all about.”

“A lot of times, on the outside looking at a team like Newcastle, you can picture it in any kind of way you want, but for the guys coming in to see and for us to show them that we back ourselves against any top team in the world, it hopefully shows them a lot of confidence.”

Trusty added: “To win 4-0 against a good side like this is pretty impressive, as it also shows where we are as a team right now and shows the mentality that we have.”

“It took us a little bit to get into the game and find the rhythm and figure out what they were doing, but once we figured it out, we had a lot of success, and once we got that, then we propelled on from there.”

“I’m happy to be the man of the match, but it was a good team and collective effort.”
