There was some truly crazy refereeing in Chelsea’s loss to Arsenal today.
The Gunners took advantage of total leniency at set pieces to just wrestle Chelsea players around both in attacking and defensive situations. The referees and VAR gave nothing.
Liam Rosenior was teed up to complain about the decisions in his press conference after the game.
“I think we can deal better with it, being honest. I do think there is a block on certain players,” the manager said,
“One of our players who’s trying to head the ball was held. Our goalkeeper, they’re running at our goalkeeper. But these things happen. We have to deal with that moment better. In fact, we gift those two set plays, we gift the free kick away before that, and we gift them a corner.

We do appreciate the Rosenior not using the lack of calls at these set pieces as an excuse, which he could quite reasonably do.
He still does accept that those were some questionable decisions, but also knows that this is just how things are being refereed right now, and that his players simply have to do better
Rosenior also spoke about his team’s big problem with discipline, which continues to haunt them.
Reece James also spoke after the game, and was gutted about some of the silly mistakes his team had made.
