Board member for sport Markus Krösche, head coach Dino Toppmöller and Hugo Ekitiké with the reaction to the 2-1 win against Mönchengladbach.
Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “It’s incredible that we produced a performance like that – hats off to the team. It shows our quality and mentality. We deserved to win even though we were a man down. They were all machines. Gladbach are a very good footballing team and tried to stretch us. We kept coming up with the answers and had our transition moments. Credit to the team. For them it’s a sign that we’re always capable of doing extraordinary things.”
Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “Despite having 10 men for a long time, it was a deserved win. In my view, we had the better chances. It was logical that Gladbach would then have more control. Great credit to my team: we’ve had more games and less time to recover. It was a victory for all of us and I’m very proud that we’ve reached the next round, together with our fans who were once again phenomenal.”
Hugo Ekitiké: “Obviously, we knew that it’s win or nothing in the cup. Even with 10 men, we took that to heart and gave it our all. We don’t feel tiredness, it’s all in the mind. The early red card was a shock and obviously didn’t make the situation any easier. However, I knew what we’re capable of and we proved that. Now we have to build on that against Bochum!”
