FC Bayern rewarded themselves late on with a spectacular away win at SC Freiburg. Match-winner Lennart Karl came into the limelight with his last-minute goal. His statements after the game also show how much self-confidence there is ahead of the clash with Real Madrid.

The 18-year-old decided the game with the last action of the match when he converted a low cross from Alphonso Davies from close range in the penalty area to make it 3:2. He tore off his shirt and let his emotions run free as he celebrated afterwards.

„I’m over the moon. It’s an incredible feeling. I always had it in my head to score the winning goal in the closing stages and rip the shirt off my body. Luckily it worked out, it’s an incredible feeling. I had a feeling I was going to score today. It happened and it was perfect,“ said Karl after the game.

For a long time beforehand, there had been few signs of success. Munich struggled against a courageous Freiburg side and did not appear to be fully on top of their game for long stretches – at times it felt as though the focus was already on the upcoming clash with Real Madrid.

Karl with Real in mind: „Gives us a lot of confidence“

Vincent Kompany’s team even fell 2-0 behind after the break, but it was only in the closing stages that the record champions turned up the heat, stepped up the pressure considerably and got back into the game with a late double strike from Tom Bischof before Karl scored the acclaimed winner.

With the win behind them, the focus is now on the Champions League, with the quarter-final first leg at Real Madrid next Tuesday looming – and the belief within the team currently seems enormous.

„We talked about it in the dressing room. It gives us a lot of confidence. It was very important. We really do feel unbeatable at the moment,“ said Karl confidently ahead of the big showdown against the Whites.
