Kerolin netted a hat-trick while Khadija Shaw and Vivianne Miedema were also on target as The Cityzens moved 11 points clear at the top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table.
When speaking to the media after the match, Manchester City boss Jeglertz offered a balanced view of his side’s performance.
“I think we started good again,” Jeglertz said. “We scored to make it 1-0 and after that, we became a little bit too low, but I don’t think they created that many great chances, they had some opportunities. We struggled a little bit with our compactness in our own half.
“It was a great feeling to have that result. There will be parts in the game where the opponent is better than you, on the ball, but you can still control the game, defending. I think that’s what we were doing in the second half; we were defending very well, having some great transitions. I think those periods when they have a little bit of momentum, if you can keep away from conceding goals then you have opportunities to win again.”
Jeglertz was asked if Manchester City have one hand on the league trophy. Despite being 11 points clear at the top of the table, he insisted that there’s still a long way to go and more to come from his side in terms of their development.
He said “We have a long way to go. Winning creates confidence and we have been winning a lot, but at the same time, there’s something in this group where they feel that we can still be a little bit better. I think if you have that drive all of the time, you will also do good training sessions every week. The players are engaged and involved in everything that we do; they also take a greater responsibility on the field and how we are becoming better.”
Kerolin bagged her first Manchester City hat-trick and Jeglertz explained how the Brazilian was able to be so effective in the game.
He said “I’m challenging her to play a little bit more central because she also has that ability to combine with other players. The game plan was, of course, in transition moments, but there was also this opportunity. How can she challenge their back line? Because she has that speed and finding the right moment to break the line.
“Now, they play with a back-four, we expected a back-five, so we got a little bit of different pictures, but she has a position where she’s always challenging their line. I think she did that today.”
Manchester City are next in action on Sunday when they travel to Arsenal.
