West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo says the club have to realise the situation they are in after losing to bottom of the table Wolves. They are now four points adrift of safety in 18th.
Wolves had not won a Premier League game this season before facing West Ham. And they didn’t just beat the Hammers, they completely outclassed them in a resounding 3-0 win.
Speaking after the game, Santo said: “It was a poor performance. First half was very bad. Very bad the way we started the game. Losing balls, tough situations, mistakes. Not much to say, only to apologise to our fans that travelled and those that stayed at home. Nobody expected us, especially ourselves, to perform so bad.
“We have to talk. We have to, as a club, realise the situation that we are in. We need much more from everybody. Much more, much more, much more.”
It is unclear whether Santo was referring to the club needing to make more signings in the January window, but the current situation is dire.
West Ham are four points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest but have not won a game since the beginning of November.
Santo is under increasing pressure, and criticised his side’s reaction to going a goal down in the game: “In previous games we’ve been able to react and bounce back from our mistakes, but today, no. Today was a consequence of mistakes over and over again that didn’t help the result.”
