FC Barcelona had quite a difficult, but also very important, game scheduled for the last night as they faced Osasuna only a few hours after the end of the last international break.
The controversial scheduling of this game meant the Blaugranes were unable to field some of their fixed starters because of insufficient rest between games.
One such player who returned just in the nick of time from his international duties for this game was Ronald Araujo. Although Hansi Flick added him to the squad for the game on his insistence, the way the game went did not make it necessary for the German to sub in the defender, even though Pau Cubarsi was also on the bench because of his recent physical problems.
Without these two players, Flick turned to Eric Garcia to start this game, and the Spaniard once again proved that he is a reliable option to have in the squad, despite not having played a lot of minutes this season.
As SPORT has reported, the former Manchester City defender also talked to the media after the game. One of the subjects the Spaniard highlighted in this media talk was the importance of winning games in La Liga, especially considering the experience of the last season:
“I think we have to keep going. We have the experience from last year when we also had a lead over Madrid, but then the gap narrowed, and we lost the top spot.”
The Barcelona defender also highlighted that this was not an easy game to win:
“On a day like today, you might lack some freshness. The important thing was to win and strengthen our lead. In the end, the most important thing today was securing the three points.”
Garcia’s words deserve a lot of attention, as despite the three-point lead that Barcelona have over Real Madrid after the win over Osasuna, there are still a lot of league games left. Thus, they will have to continue winning their games, and hopefully, the Spanish defender will be able to continue contributing as he did last night.
