  1. Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has delivered a powerful message promising swift, decisive manoeuvres in the summer transfer market.
  2. Al Mubarak heavily praised the early impacts of Marc Guéhi and Antoine Semenyo, confirming their blockbuster winter arrivals were strategic, pre-emptive summer transfers brought forward.
  3. The hierarchy remains entirely unconcerned by the logistical hurdles presented by the looming FIFA World Cup.

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has insisted the club are clear in what they intend to do during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Amid legal resolutions this week to iron out the compensation technicalities surrounding incoming head coach Enzo Maresca, the focus at Manchester City has comprehensively pivoted to constructing a title-reclaiming squad at the Etihad Stadium.

While City concluded their latest campaign by lifting a domestic cup double, losing out on the Premier League title to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal has ignited a drive inside the club to fortify the senior squad before the summer window opens on June 15.

Hugo Viana’s recruitment team is already managing several situations across the squad, including navigating a stance to block European tracking of centre-back Joško Gvardiol and managing depth behind Matheus Nunes at right-back.

By providing clarity on the club’s intent ahead of the market, Khaldoon Al Mubarak only adds to the excitement growing amongst the fans ahead of a brand new era beyond Pep Guardiola into the 2026/27 season and beyond.

Khaldoon Al Mubarak previews City’s summer transfer business

Speaking during his annual end-of-season interview with ManCity.com, Khaldoon Al Mubarak has looked ahead to the upcoming summer transfer window with an element of excitement, insisting the supporters that clear plans are in place over possible targets.

“I don’t think it [the World Cup] makes it more or less complicated. I think it’s part of the game. We know how to deal with it, Hugo [Viana] knows how to deal with it. We know what we want, we know what we need and we know how to go about it,” said Al Mubarak.

He continued, “Don’t forget in January we made two very important signings. Big credit to Hugo in being able to identify needs and move on two top talents, Marc Guéhi and Antoine Semenyo. So, we’re very happy with them joining in January. These two would have been two typical summer moves, given the size of the transfer fees and the importance of the players.”

The City chairman continued, “And as we’ve always shown, and I think this is important always to know this Club, we are organised, we are thoughtful and sometimes when we need to be decisive and pre-emptive, we will do that and that’s exactly what we did in these two cases.

“I think in the summer, we know exactly what we want to do, we know exactly who we are targeting and I promise you, as always, we’ll go about our business and be as efficient, [and] as swift as possible.”

How Man City intend to operate before transfer window opens

By securing the futures of elite Premier League performers like Guéhi and Semenyo early, Viana has effectively completed a layer of City’s squad regeneration well ahead of schedule, leaving the club free to prioritise detailed and somewhat reactionary additions to other exits.

The tracking from the Etihad Stadium is now firmly locked onto an active pursuit of Nottingham Forest’s England international midfielder Elliot Anderson, whom Manchester City have already had an opening bid rejected for by those at the City Ground.

Players not involved in international tournament duties are expected to report back to the City Football Academy training centre for pre-season in July, before the squad jets off for its pre-season tour of Far-East Asia.

At present, the first opportunity to see Enzo Maresca’s Manchester City and any new signings could be the clash with Italian champions Inter in Hong Kong on Saturday 1 August, 2026.
