The Girona FC coach, Míchel Sánchez, appeared this afternoon at the press conference prior to the match that will take place tomorrow between Girona FC and RC Celta at the Montilivi stadium. The red-and-white coach emphasized the demands of the duel and the need to have a fully committed fan base.
Míchel highlighted the level of the opponent: “Celta is one of the best teams in the league. They are fighting for European positions, and we need to be able to counteract their game rhythm and dominate the match. We want to take a step forward.” In this regard, he stressed that the support of the public will be key: “We need our people with us at 200 percent because this is a match where, at times, we will suffer.” The coach positively assessed the team's evolution at the start of this year: “In 2026, we are doing things better. The team has more security in the game and when the opponent is in the offensive phase.” Even so, he insisted that the goal remains very clear: “We must reach 42 points as soon as possible. It is the most important thing for the team and the club, but we are still far from that figure. We have to go game by game and fight for those 42 points. That is our reality.”
Regarding the defensive performance and the young central defenders of the team, Míchel highlighted their progress: “For Vítor, for Francés, or for Arnau, when they have played as central defenders, having David and Daley as references is very important. Vítor Reis has grown a lot; we knew he had special talent, and right now he is in great form. He always gives 100 percent. He is a very humble guy and eager to learn. He makes us better. For me, he will be a top player, for a big team.”
The coach insisted on the importance of making Montilivi a difficult stadium: “We have to make it hard for opponents to take points here.” He concluded the press conference by emphasizing the need to be consistent throughout the match: “We must have the same mentality in the 1st minute and the 90th. We need confidence to face the final minutes. The season is long, we must have a clear goal, and if we have time to fight for something more, we will not give it up.”
