Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk has suggested that the club’s work in the transfer window is not yet finished ahead of the new season.
So far the Reds have brought in centre-backs Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo, as well as winger Victor Munoz. However, more incomings could be needed following the exits of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate, and with Curtis Jones now set to depart.
“Listen, we need everyone to be fit,” Van Dijk said on Liverpool’s prospects ahead of the new season. “We need a squad that’s able to compete on all four fronts, and that’s the only way to be successful.
“Let’s see what the last couple of weeks of the transfer window will bring, and we’re going to go for it.”
Aside from players, there has also been a change in personnel in the dugout at Anfield. Following a disappointing campaign, manager Arne Slot was dismissed and has been replaced by Andoni Iraola.
“Listen, I think for me personally, being a Liverpool player last year was unacceptable,” said Van Dijk. “But it’s last year, we all know it.
“This year we have an opportunity to turn that around, together with our fans. We all know how tough that will be.
“What I feel at the moment is everyone is up for the challenge. Let’s see next week how we go about it, but I’m really looking forward to this season.
“I don’t think we have a point to prove to anyone. We have to show how much we care, how much we want to fight for this badge, and also realise how privileged and blessed we are to be able to play for Liverpool.”
