Managers don’t like talking about transfers much, and we can understand why.
They only generally stand to get themselves in trouble – either with their own fans, opposition fans, opposition managers, their own sporting directors. They tend to just deflect any questions.

Today’s press conference saw a rare occasion where a coach mentioned them of his own accord. Enzo Maresca was discussing his team on the tour and whether it’s stronger or weaker than the one that finished the Premier League campaign a month ago.
You can see the Chelsea boss speaking in the clip, with these quotes coming after 6 minutes:
“I don’t know for sure [if it’s stronger or weaker], we just said Jadon [Sancho] is not with us. So for sure that is a position that probably we need to do something. Also because as you know Misha [Mudryk] is not with us. So in this moment we have Noni [Madueke], Pedro [Neto] and Ty[rique George], as proper wingers. So for sure something is going to happen. We said many times, when the transfer window is open, anything can happen.”
It’s hardly a major revelation, and as he says, it’s pretty obvious where they’re weak. But still, it’s always interesting to hear a manager tip their hand a little.
Jamie Gittens has been linked most heavily, and one can imagine Dortmund rubbing their hands with glee hearing their prize asset’s suitors admitting they’re pretty short in his part of the pitch.
But he’s not the only one – we’ve heard more and more about Xavi Simons of late. The club clearly want to keep their options open – the fact they sent Jadon Sancho back to Man U rather than sign him shows they think they can make a significant upgrade.
