“We need to score more goals!”: Kane calls on Bayern to step up their game | OneFootball

FC Bayern secured another victory, but Harry Kane wasn’t entirely satisfied after the 2-1 win at SV Elversberg. The striker sees significant room for improvement at the record champions this early in the season.

For Munich, it was already their fifth win in the sixth competitive match of the new season. The only time Vincent Kompany’s team has dropped points so far was in the 0–0 draw at Schalke. Nevertheless, their play is still far from flawless.

This was also evident against the newly promoted team from Elversberg. Bayern controlled the ball for long stretches but repeatedly made mistakes and failed to consistently convert their dominance into clear scoring chances.

One reason for this is the difficult start to preseason. Several players returned from injuries or joined team training late. Consequently, not all of the pros are in top form yet.

Kane: “Not yet at the highest level”

Kane therefore views the current situation quite realistically. After the narrow victory at the Kaiserlinde, the Englishman made it clear that Bayern are not yet at 100 percent.

“It wasn’t the worst performance today, I have to say. We were better in the second half. We know it’s going to be a long season and that we’re not at our best yet. But we’ve already secured some important wins, and that’s what we’ll take with us,” the experienced forward explained after the victory at the Kaiserlinde.

Kane himself played a major role in helping Munich take home the three points. After Maurice Krattenmacher had temporarily equalized, the 33-year-old scored the decisive goal in the 72nd minute to make it 2-1.

For Kane, it was also his first Bundesliga goal of the new season. The forward had previously found the back of the net in the Champions League and the DFB Cup.

Bayern is squandering too many chances

One area is currently causing Kane particular headaches: finishing. Even in the scoreless draw against Schalke, Bayern had plenty of chances but couldn’t convert any of them into goals.

In Elversberg, too, the record champions failed to capitalize on several good opportunities. Kane himself was blocked several times, Luis Diaz squandered a great chance with a backheel attempt, and the team often lacked that final touch when shooting from distance.

“Of course we need to score more goals—that’s clear—but we won the game,” the Englishman concluded.

That is precisely the most important insight for Bayern at the moment: despite a lack of fluidity and some players still searching for their rhythm, the team is already racking up important wins.

For Kompany, the focus now will likely be on further improving the team’s play in the coming weeks. Especially in the final third, the Munich side needs to be more clinical again.

At the same time, Kane makes it clear that no one on the team believes they’ve already reached their peak performance. The results are largely there—now it’s time for their play to develop further.
