Vincent Kompany has urged patience over Jamal Musiala’s return to peak form, despite the Bayern Munich playmaker’s bright weekend display. The 23-year-old scored and assisted in the 5-0 win against St. Pauli.

According to BuLi News, Musiala fractured his fibula at last summer’s Club World Cup, returning in January. A setback in March sidelined him for several Bayern matches and Germany’s friendlies against Switzerland and Ghana, before he featured again at the start of this month.

He was handed his first start since that setback at the weekend.

At a Tuesday press conference, Kompany said progress is clear compared with three months ago, but stressed there is still work to do.

The expectation is that Musiala will start on the bench for Bayern’s Champions League second leg with Real Madrid, as the club continue to ease him back. Kompany would not be drawn on team news, saying he could not comment on tomorrow, but felt the trajectory was positive and that one day Bayern would have the Jamal they want to see again.

He added that everyone needs to stay calm, noting it is already much better than two months ago. Even so, Musiala is contributing goals and assists, which he believes reflects growing maturity and a player who feels increasingly comfortable while still performing.
